Substitute Teaching

Thank you for your interest in being a substitute teacher for SAU #53.  Substitute teachers must possess a minimum of a high school diploma or GED.

To apply to become a substitute in any of our 9 schools, click the links below, print out these forms (they can not be submitted electronically) and bring your completed paperwork to the SAU office on Pembroke Street in Pembroke.  You may click here for driving directions.

(Be sure to use references that include work or experience you've had with children.)

W-4 Form

I-9 Form
(Must be accompanied by 2 forms of identification.  i.e.: driver's license & social security card or birth certificate.  You may also present ONLY a passport.)

You may also contact or stop into the SAU office or any of our schools to obtain all of the necessary paperwork for substituting.

Once all required paperwork has been completed and turned in your references will be checked and the Superintendent will review your application.  Upon his approval, the schools that you indicated in your application will be notified of your interest and you will be contacted by those schools when a substitute is needed.

The schools, NOT the SAU office, contact substitutes when their employ is needed.  We can not guarantee any specific number of days/hours of employ as a substitute teacher.
