JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Special
Education Coordinator
REQUIREMENTS: 3-5 years of experience as a
special educator certified and/or licensed in the State of
Evidence of past performance of personnel and
program management responsibilities within special services
REPORTS TO: District
Principal
JOB GOALS:
1. To assure the successful operation and staffing of
District-run programs designed to provide services to students identified under
IDEA.
2.
To
assure District compliance with all federal and state laws and regulations
relative to educating students identified under IDEA.
3. To assure total program success through the cooperative
reporting to the SAU Director of Special Services.
1.
Supervise
and evaluate the job performance of all District Special Education Paraprofessionals.
2.
Oversee
all functions of all District Special Education Student Review Teams by:
a.
attending
IEP or team meetings as the LEA representative or when absent, appointing a
replacement
b.
assuring
that team members follow correct process and procedures as outlined in the NH
State Standards for the Education of Handicapped Students.
c.
Assigning
case manager responsibilities to staff.
3.
Provide
to the SAU Director of Special Services, information and recommendations for
the annual budget development process and for monitoring the current fiscal
year budget.
4.
Ensure
that student special education records are maintained in compliance with
federal, state and local requirements.

5.
Screen
requests for diagnostic testing, schedule evaluations, and maintain appropriate
records for evaluations performed.
6.
Keep
current with trends, developments, and research within the field of special
education and to the laws and regulations pertaining to the field.
7.
Disseminate
necessary special education information to school personnel and recommend to
the principal appropriate training for non-special education staff.
8.
Assure
an effective professional development program in areas related to special education, for the District’s special
education staff.
9.
Provide
special education program data and statistics to the Principal and the SAU
Director of Special Services.
10.
Consult
with District staff during the prereferral process
and relative to alternatives prior to the special education process.
11.
Consult
with the SAU Director of Special Services before recommendations are made for
out of district placements or the creation of new programs.
12.
Perform
other duties as may be assigned by the Principal and the SAU Director of
Special Services.
