DEERFIELD SCHOOL DISTRICT
TB POLICY
In accordance with the N.H. Bureau of Disease Control, Tuberculosis Control Program, we recommend the following:
Children
Tuberculosis skin testing is no longer routinely required for children in New Hampshire schools and day care centers. However, for low-risk groups (areas of low prevalence) it is recommended that Mantoux tuberculin testing be performed once during childhood coinciding with a routine health appraisal, such as a pre-school physical examination.
Annual Mantoux tuberculin testing should be performed and is recommended for all high risk children.
The Mantoux tuberculin test is always indicated for persons with known contact to a person with active tuberculosis. (Unless previously tested positive.)
If a child has had a tuberculin skin test prior to admission and that test is significant (positive), clearance for admission should be obtained from the private physician, and be reported to the Tuberculosis Control Program, Bureau of Disease Control, New Hampshire Division of Public Health Services.
Employees
A Tuberculosis Mantoux skin test (PPD) is recommended within 3 months prior to employment. (Exception: Known significant reactors do not need repeat skin tests. Those persons should have clearance prior to employment from their private physicians and the Tuberculosis Control Program.)
Repeat skin testing should be done on all employees every three years. Persons with new, significant (positive) reactions must be referred to a physician.
Any employee with a prolonged respiratory illness should be referred to a private physician for evaluation.
