Job Description

 

 

TITLE:                                   Educational Assistant

 

JOB GOAL:                           Support the educational process to ensure that all student needs are met.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:             High School Diploma

                                                Interest in and experience with children

                                                Ability to get along with others

                                                Ability to follow directions

                                                Ability to maintain strict confidentiality

                                                Good classroom management skills

                                                Computer literacy preferred.

 

REPORTS TO:                      Primary teacher and/or consulting special education teacher

 

SUPERVISED BY:                Special Education Coordinator and/or classroom teacher

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

§         Facilitate participation of students in classroom activities

§         Assist the teacher in implementing I.E.P. goals

§         Assist the teacher in gathering data and record keeping

§         Serve as resource person to the Student Review Team

§         Carry out health and safety protocols

§         Support and implement building discipline procedures

§         Provide feedback to teacher(s) regarding a child’s behavior and academic progress

§         Assist with classroom management and setting up the classroom environment

§         Assist the teacher in developing and implementing behavior management plans

§         Assist the children with self-help skills (i.e. tie shoes, help with lunch)

§         Provide positive verbal and non-verbal reinforcers to students as modeled and directed by teachers

§         Cover duties (i.e. bus, lunch, recess) as directed by the building principal

§         Other responsibilities as assigned by the building principal.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:

 

 

q       One-on-one with handicapped child:

 

§         Accompany student throughout the day under supervisor’s direction

§         Report any mechanical problem with handicap equipment (wheelchair, walker, etc.)

§         Accompany student on class/field trips.  These trips may need to be pre-planned for handicapped accessibility

§         Ability to lift

§         Willingness to assist child with personal hygiene (toileting, eating, etc.) when necessary.

 

q       Resource Room

 

§         Help with paperwork (Special Education forms, quarterly progress reports, EIP forms, typing SRT minutes, etc.)

§         Cover for Special Education Coordinator during required meetings and/or workshops

§         Assists in insuring compliance at the beginning and end of the school year.
