CHICHESTER SCHOOL DISTRICT

EMPLOYEE COMPLAINTS AND GRIEVANCES

The Board subscribes to an orderly, well-defined grievance procedure for the resolution of problems derived from applications of Board policies and District regulations.  Grievances will be handled expeditiously in accordance with the procedures approved by the Board.

The Board desires to promote dialogue within the school community that is both open and respectful. The views and concerns of school district employees in particular, are viewed as important to successfully achieving the school’s mission and are, therefore, highly valued.  It is also the Board’s desire, that policy disagreements among adults in the school community be conducted in a fashion that does not involve students in unethical or manipulative ways.

To achieve the above goals the Board encourages school district employees to:

1.                  seek to resolve problems in a manner respectful of the school district’s management structure, mindful that expeditious resolution of problems and maintenance of a congenial and professional workplace are both best served in this fashion.  Appeals of decisions are appropriately pursued at the School Principal, the Superintendent, and the School Board levels in that order;

2.                  recognize that disagreement with decisions, and expression of concerns and/or suggestions, as opposed to an appeal of decision, can be expressed at any level at any time irrespective of any order of management levels;

3.         understand that suggestions, concerns, disagreements, and appeals when presented in a respectful and professional manner contribute to creating a healthy workplace, and that respectful attention to such input is the expected response at all management levels.
