Statement of Purpose:
The Chichester School Board understands the educational necessity for the School District to provide student and staff access to the internet and other associated and emerging technological advances in information access and exchange. The Board also recognizes that in the absence of appropriate procedures and safeguards there exists, with the introduction of these new modes of communication, a potential for abuse and harmful disruptions to the school community.
The School Board seeks to encourage staff to become knowledgeable in the capabilities and use of the internet, and to identify and use creative applications of this resource to research for and planning and implementation of their classroom activities. It wishes to discourage all uses of this resource which are illegal or which do not contribute to, or which in fact may inhibit, achievement of the School District’s educational mission.
Prohibited Uses:
Staff members of the Chichester School District seeking to utilize the District’s internet capabilities will be required to sign the statement at the end of this policy. Provision of their signature will indicate understanding of and agreement to the Internet Acceptable Use Policy including recognition of the following prohibited uses:
1. Illegal Activities – Illegal activities shall be defined as actions in violation of local, state, and/or federal laws.
2. Inappropriate Activities – Inappropriate use shall be defined as any use which does not support the educational goals and mission of the Chichester School District.
3. Commercial or Financial Gain
4. Intentional
Disruption of the District’s Network System Including Alteration of System Records
5. Sharing of Network Accounts or Access
Codes Without Administrative Approval
I have read the above Internet Acceptable Use Policy and agree to the obligations and restrictions this policy places upon my use of the internet in the Chichester School District. I understand that my violations of this policy’s terms will result in disciplinary action which can include loss of the privilege of internet use as well as suspension or termination. I further understand that violations which are illegal acts will be referred to appropriate authorities for legal prosecution.
