IJOA
FIELD TRIP POLICY
Any employee may not use
his/her position or the name of the school to promote or participate in an
enterprise involving trips of any distance for travel, sightseeing, attendance
at any athletic events or for any other purpose requiring an expenditure of
money on the part of the students or their parents without the consent of the
principal. This prohibition also applies
to trips during vacation periods and during summer months.
Teachers must arrange chaperones for field trips. There will be one adult chaperone for any ten
children. Field trips are to be
cancelled or postponed if adequate adult supervision has not been provided. Careful advance planning, coordinated with
the areas to be visited, is essential.
Approval of field trips will be based on
relevance to course, number of students and/or teachers involved, cost, time of
year and other factors. Field Trip
Request Forms must be made out in duplicate and submitted to the principal,
where possible those trips that are repeated annually should be specifically
identified within the context of the district’s curriculum guides. Generally, field trips beyond two per year,
per level, will require additional supporting documentation to be submitted to
the principal for approval. Approval of
trips over and above the two per year shall be made by the principal and shall
be based on the availability of funds and educational benefit to children.
