Character and Citizenship Education Policy
The Allenstown School District provides a Character and Citizenship Development Program in accordance with the New Hampshire Minimum Standards for School Approval (1993).
- Characteristics
- The program is integrated into the district’s regular program of instruction and co-curricular activities.
- Basic values are also instilled, by example, by all district personnel.
- Emphasized values will reflect the ethos of the community to the greatest degree possible. The school community will be consulted in determining and developing programs or initiatives.
- Programs such as "Here’s Looking At You 2000" which focus on building self-esteem, cooperation among peers, and alcohol and drug education are integrated into the district’s program.
- Basic Principles and Techniques
- While values begin in the home, the school seeks to reinforce them.
- Students must be equipped with skills for coping and succeeding in a complex world.
- Character and Citizenship programs must teach students to make judgements based upon knowing and analyzing their options and the consequences of their actions.
- Basic Elements of Character and Citizenship Development
- Self-discipline, self-respect, and self-control.
- Truth and honesty with self and others.
- Fairness, integrity, and justice.
- Respect, courtesy, and human worth.
- Responsibility to oneself and others.
- Community service and responsible citizenship.
