SUBSTITUTE PROFESSIONAL STAFF EMPLOYMENT
Administrative Procedure
- Selection of Substitutes
- The superintendent’s office will run an ad in the local newspapers. Those people who substituted the previous year will be asked if they wish to keep their name on the list. A post card will be sent to those people who substituted during the preceding year no later than August 1st. The substitute list will be prepared and distributed to each principal by the Superintendent no later than August 31st.
- Those people whose names are placed on the substitute list must be certified according to the standards as established by the New Hampshire State Department of Education.
- Exceptions to the above will be made by the Superintendent of Schools.
- Evaluation of Substitutes
- The principal will confer with the substitute in the classroom at least once during the first day of duty; and will hold additional conferences if the length of substitution is more than one day. In addition a written assessment will be completed when the length of substitution is more than one day.
- If the length of substitution extends beyond 10 consecutive days, the substitute will be evaluated in accordance with the existing evaluation system.
- Principals will share information about substitutes at the monthly principals’ meetings.
- Duties of Substitutes
A. The substitute will perform all of the duties that are assigned to the classroom teacher that he/she is replacing. These duties may include playground, lunchroom, detention hall supervision, etc.
- The substitute will follow the classroom teacher’s lesson plans.
- The principal will provide a substitute folder which will include the daily routine of the school as well as other pertinent information. The substitute folder will also include classwork which may be used to supplement the lesson plans. The substitute folder must be periodically updated by the classroom teacher.

- Renumeration
- The rate of pay will be twenty dollars ($20.00) per day for the first twenty (20) consecutive school days. On the twenty-first (21) school day the substitute will be placed on the appropriate step of the salary schedule.
- Emergency Procedure
A. If the principal is unable to have a substitute, the principal will use his/her discretion relative to providing proper supervision of the students. The principal will advise the Superintendent of the problem so that steps may be taken to find additional substitutes.
