JOB DESCRIPTION

Principal, Allenstown School District

The following specific functions need to be reviewed annually by the evaluator and the evaluatee.

1. JOB GOAL:

a) To implement in-service training programs.

b) To maintain minimal performance standards.

c) To assist teachers in professional improvement.

d) To observe faculty/staff performance.

e) To design, adopt and implement improved instructional practices.

f) To schedule and plan faculty meetings.

g) To select instructional materials, including textbooks and audiovisual materials.

h) To establish the nature, scope and sequence of course offerings.

i) To provide curriculum direction.

j) To prepare courses of study.

k) To design or adopt instructional programs.

l) To revise course content.

m) To conduct curriculum evaluations.

n) To coordinate instructional activities.

2. ADMINISTRATION:

a) To build the master schedule.

b) To directly supervise and evaluate Assistant Principal, Guidance Director, classroom teachers, special support staff, hot lunch program director, para-professional personnel.

c) To prepare reports for the state, Superintendent and accrediting agencies.

d) To assign classroom space and equipment.

e) To oversee the transportation system.

f) To plan graduation, awards, assemblies, etc.

3. BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS:

a) Plan long-term maintenance programs.

b) Supervision and evaluation of custodians.

c) Schedule custodians tasks and functions.

d) Assume responsibility for a running inventory of custodial supplies and equipment.

4. PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT:

a) To schedule student activity sponsorship assignments.

b) To schedule special duty assignments.

c) To appoint faculty committees.

d) To conduct teacher orientation programs.

e) To submit recommendations regarding retention, tenure, dismissal and salary increments.

4. PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT (CONT.):

f) To direct activities of secretarial and custodial staff.

g) To direct activities of teacher aides.

5. PUPIL SERVICES:

a) To register students.

b) To orient students new to the school.

c) To promulgate student behavior policy.

d) To maintain student discipline.

e) To develop and maintain student records.

f) To maintain a guidance-counselor program.

g) To maintain attendance procedure.

h) To group students.

i) To organize and supervise student activities.

j) To maintain student activity calendar.

k) To provide direction for student activity program.

l) To maintain student activity records.

m) To evaluate the student activity program.

n) To provide student assembly programs.

o) To provide special pupil services, i.e. health, speech, etc.

6. BUSINESS MANAGEMENT:

a) To prepare the school budget.

b) To administer the budget.

c) To maintain financial records.

d) To maintain student activity accounts.

e) To purchase instructional materials and equipment.

7. COMMUNITY – PUBLIC RELATIONS:

a) To meet with public groups and individuals.

b) To respond to the concerns of the public.

c) To prepare news releases and stories.

d) To meet with the school board.

e) To prepare the public to support the school’s programs financially.

f) To communicate school progress and concerns to the public.

8. HUMAN RELATIONS:

a) To promote staff involvement.

b) To maintain high staff morale.

c) To promote student involvement.

d) To maintain high student morale.

e) To promote public involvement.

f) To maintain high public interest.
