Pick-up and Drop-off Procedures

In the last two years we have had changes in student arrival and dismissal procedures at both Pembroke Village and Pembroke Hill Schools. These changes have been made in the interest of student safety, following a series of discussions between and among transportation officials, school and district administration, and local public safety.

Busses transporting students will arrive at both schools each morning between 7:30 and 8:05am, and leave each afternoon between 2:05 and 2:15pm. Parents transporting their children to school themselves should do so during those same times.

Hill School
All busses will approach Pembroke Hill School via Belanger Drive, with student entering the building through the gym. Parents who drop off or pick up their children off by car, at Pembroke Hill School, should access the school by traveling down Pearley St., approaching the building at the old original entrance, dropping or picking up students there, and exiting the property via Rowe St.

We will have staff on duty at both entrances each morning and afternoon. We will direct cars to pull up alongside the building and we will load and unload three to four cars at a time. We ask that parents stay in their cars to keep the line moving. If you need to come into the building, please feel free to use the parking spaces to the left, signing in just inside the door, or use the parking lot on Belanger Drive and the usual office entrance.
 
Village School
At Village School, all busses will approach the school via Maple Street or coming up High street from the direction of downtown .Busses will enter the school grounds through the lower (nearest Maple Street) opening in the white fence. They will loop around, and pull up near the Gym doors where students will be dropped off.

Parents dropping students off in the morning should approach the school grounds via Pine Street, pull up along the sidewalk in the area that we currently receive kids, (please do not block the fire hydrant!)  Parents dropping students off have a couple options: what works best is for students to be seated on the passenger side, and parents to stay in the car. We will help students out, and parents can pull away and continue down High Street. If parents want to park and get out with their child,  cars can park along the sidewalk, and actually both sides of the street, as long as they are not down near the entrance to our lot nearest maple street. The busses pulling off the lot need to make a sharp turn, and we cannot have any cars parked on either side of the street near the intersection of Maple and High for that reason.

Parents picking up students at the end of the day can park along High St. and come into the Gym where students will be released to them. Please help us keep all pedestrian traffic out of the of the bus loop area, which is designated by orange and yellow cones.

Students who walk to school can either enter and exit the property on High St. near the playground equipment, between the chain link fence and the white wooden fence, or near the building, along the wing that extends towards Pine St. All walkers must stay outside the bus loop, which is designated by orange and yellow cones.

After school, Parents picking up students will still come to the gym, however we ask that you park near the intersection of Pine Street and High street, rather than Maple Street and High Street. There will be more room to walk out to the street away from the bus lane along this side, and again, those busses need room to swing out onto High street, so we cannot have any cars parked on either side of the street near the intersection of Maple and High.

In inclement weather, walkers and students being brought to school by parents, will enter the building through the wing that extends out towards Pine Street, and busses will drop student at the gym, as usual.
