Pembroke Hill School

Welcome to the Pembroke Village and Pembroke Hill Schools. Between our two buildings we serve Pembroke’s children from kindergarten through fourth grade. At the Hill School an integrated pre school program is run by the SAU.

The Hill and Village Schools operate as one unit in a number of ways.  Before 1992 kindergarten through grade five were housed at the Hill School. At that time there were three portable classrooms in the playground area to help handle the overcrowding of the school. When Three Rivers School opened the fifth grade moved to the new school to join grades six through eight.  The Village School -  known as the High Street School when it housed grades six through eight – was extensively renovated and became the home for kindergarten and first grade.  The second, third and fourth grades remained at Hill School and the portable classrooms were removed.

Though divided between two buildings, the K – 4  program continues to function as a unit to provide a seamless program for children in the lower elementary grades.  There is one administrative team, and several staff , such as reading specialist, art and gym teachers, are shared between the buildings. Many of the classroom teachers have worked at both buildings over the years. Staff meetings and staff development activities are done together.

The Village and Hill Schools provide a safe and nurturing environment for the children as they begin their formal education.  We have an experienced staff who emphasize the importance of literacy and math instruction in these early years. We have a wonderfully supportive parent group, known as PALS and an active volunteer program.  We publish a weekly newsletter to keep our families informed of current events at the schools.
