The start of the new school year is upon us, and we have had a couple changes at Pembroke Village and Pembroke Hill Schools this summer that I would like to let you know about. First, we have a new office at Village School. You no longer have to go around to the back of the building and into the basement to enter the office. The new entrance is right on the side of the building that you face as you approach the building from Pine Street. This change allowed us to create a security entrance that the office staff can see into, and keeps visitors from entering directly into an academic wing. It also brought the office above ground and toward the front of the building where we can monitor the playground and activity along the street. Most of the work was done by our own maintenance staff and they did a beautiful job.
Both Hill School and Village School, and Three Rivers School as well, have been awarded “start-up” moneys through the Safe Routes to Schools grant. This amounts to almost $5,000.00 per building to do traffic and pedestrian studies, which will hopefully make us eligible for larger sums for improving infrastructure, related to safety and encouraging more students to walk to school. More information on how you can participate will be available through out the year.
We are creating three visitor parking spots outside each office for easier guest access…the signs are on back order, but those spaces will be the first three spaces along the gym wall outside the office at Hill School, and the first three spaces along the back of the building at Village, on the new office (Pine St.) end.
Our staff is returning on Monday August 30th, for two planning days, before the students return on September 1st. We will select dates for open houses, bbq’s and all other “beginning of the year events.” We will be sending those dates and information home with the kids in the first newsletter, and we hope you are able to join us. We look forward to having your children come back, and we look forward to another wonderful year. Please feel free to contact either office if you have any questions… and enjoy the remaining days of vacation!
