Maps 101 has both historical and modern day maps of the world, and maps of some cities down to the street level. Maps 101 also has statistical information for different countries of the world, and flags of the world. Online Databases 

Worldbook Online is a great, easy-to-use resource which can be accessed from home or school.  It includes an online encyclopedia, atlas and dictionary geared to students in Grades 3 and up.  Worldbook Kids is geared to students in younger grades. Ebscohost Databases are a great information source for projects and general research provided by the NH State Library. The user name and password can be found in the Bridge or obtained by contacting the librarian at for user name and password.

1.       Searchasaurus – for grades K-4 includes a children’s encyclopedia, a wildlife encyclopedia, atlases, a dictionary, magazine articles, and a photo gallery.  Searchasaurus has an easy to use visual directory.

2.       Middle Search Plus – provides access to 140 magazines for middle school research plus a large selection of biographies and an image gallery of photos, maps, and flags.

3.       Ebsco Animals – a wildlife encyclopedia.

4.       Newspaper Source – news from more than 200 regional, national and international newspapers.

Biography Resource Center - provides biographical information on more than 320,000 people throughout history.  Contact the librarian at vschonwald@sau53.org for user name and password.

Country Reports – provides a wide variety of information about countries around the world including government, social life, economics, food and customs.  Also includes a section on U.S. states with statistics, state symbols and interesting facts.  Contact the librarian at  vschonwald@sau53.org for user name and password.

    Children can ask a question such as “Why is the sky blue?” and receive an answer with pictures and a basic explanation.
Yahooligans
  Yahoo for kids search engine.designed for kids ages 7-12. Sites are hand-picked to be appropriate for children.  The oldest children’s search engine.

Early Grades and up:

    Stories, songs, and games which encourage beginning readers.
Enchanted Learning
   Offers resources and activities on a wide variety of topics including science, geography, languages, and art.  Includes world language resources; state facts and symbols; information about animals of various biomes, a variety of science dictionaries and much more.  There is an extensive collection of printable activity books for all grades and subject areas from world languages to folktales to astronomy.

Middle  Grades and up:

Ben's Guide
    Information about the U.S. government including the branches of government, symbols, important historical documents, and games and activities.  Graded for a variety of ages from K through 12.

Biography.com

  Database of brief biographies for more than 25,000 famous people past and present.

NH Almanac
    Information about famous people, flora and fauna, and important facts about New Hampshire.
FactMonster
   A visual directory of information with an atlas of the world, historical timelines, and sections on a wide variety of topics such as biomes, lives of kids around the world, sports, and idioms and proverbs.  A special section on the homepage includes daily news, a daily word quiz, analogy, and information about this day in history.
InfoPlease
    Includes an encyclopedia, dictionary, atlas, thesaurus and more.  
Internet Public Library Kid Space

   Offers a wealth of activities for curious minds with online stories (including stories in Spanish and French), almanacs, geography, information about famous people in history, and much more.   

Sheppard Software

  Free online quizzes in math, geography, space science, social studies and more.

Wildlife Journal Junior

   Photos and information about plants, animals and insects native to NH including information about endangered species, habitat and diet.  Also a section on animals worldwide A-Z.

Older Grades:
Internet Public Library TeenSpace

    Offers information specifically for older students on topics such as how to write a research paper, career information, organizational skills, technology, health and wellness issues, reading and writing.  Also includes an extensive list of homework help sites.
World Factbook

    Information about countries of the world, including population, flags, geography, economy and more.
The Physics Classroom
    Offers a physics tutorial including information about the nature of waves, Newton’s laws, momentum and conservation, with quizzes to help students check their understanding.
