The Mission of the Deerfield Community School Physical
Education Department:
- To teach students that physical activity is important
for the health and well being of every individual
- To introduce students to a wide variety of physical
activities while developing fundamental motor skills, movement concepts,
and athletic skills
- To create a safe and non-threatening environment
resulting in a positive learning experience for all students
- To enhance every student’s life by promoting
health, physical fitness, goal setting, self-esteem, stress management,
and social skills.
- To inform, educate, and involve parents in the development
of healthy and physically active children
"Physical fitness is not only one of the most important
keys to a healthy body, it is the basis of dynamic
and creative intellectual activity. The relationship
between the soundness of the body and the activities of the
mind is subtle and
complex. Much is not yet understood. But we do know what
the Greeks knew: that
intelligence and skill can only function at the peak of
their capacity when the body is healthy and strong."
-President John Fitzgerald Kennedy
