NCLB Notification
Under No Child Left Behind (NCLB) there are certain conditions under which districts need to provide families with the option of sending their child to another public school within their community. While we do not have multiple schools at each level within SAU #53 we would like to keep you informed of how we handle issues related to NCLB.
Under the law schools are expected to reach a target goal of achievement (AYP) each year for all grades tested (Grades 3-8 and Grade 10). The target level of achievement is raised each year and by 2014 all students are expected to reach the proficient level in both math and reading. Test results are divided into four levels; proficient is the second highest of the levels. If a school does not meet the established target (AYP) for two consecutive years, it is considered to be in need of improvement. At that point a school is mandated to develop an improvement plan and in certain cases families are to be offered school choice options.
In SAU #53 we analyze our test results annually and inform you of the results through newsletters, our website or other school/home communications. Individual results are distributed to families. Whether we have performed very well or lower than we would like we devise plans to either address areas of concern or insure that we maintain achievement in areas of strength.
We recognize that families play an integral part in any student’s success. We welcome your input on our ongoing efforts to provide a quality education within our districts. Please contact your school if you have any question, input or concerns.
