Agenda Item 3B   Review of Deliberative Session Strategies

As a cost-effective decision, the Board has selected a new health insurance provider for the teachers and staff.  The estimate for healthcare costs, based on the quotes from this new provider, would be approximately $19,400 less than what is in the budget.  The healthcare costs line item was calculated based on the previous health insurance provider, who was still the provider when the budget was prepared.  The impact of changing the line item amount in the budget  (to be presented at the deliberative session that follows) was discussed by the Board.  The fact was noted that health coverage required by the teachers and staff can only be estimated, as needs for families and singles change.  The impact of healthcare cost, due to the change in providers, was a minimal percentage of the healthcare line item (less than 1%).  Therefore, the Board decided that this was not a specific detail that needed to be presented at the deliberative session, and also chose not to change this line item in the budget.
