PRESENT: Tom Irzyk, Karen LaPlume, Louise L’Heureux, Carl Schaefer, Sted Holton, Betsey Cox-Buteau, Peter Warburton, Patrick Connors, Principal of Epsom Central School, Dennis Fowler, Polly Saltmarsh, Nathan Oxnard, Donna Ong.

 

1.   Call to Order

 

      The meeting was called to order at 6:13 P.M. by Chair Tom Irzyk.

 

2.   Minutes of Previous Meetings

 

      The minutes of July 17, 2007, were reviewed.  A motion was made by Karen LaPlume, seconded by Carl Schaefer, to approve the minutes.

 3.  Immediate Business

 

      A.  Citizens’ Comments

 

            There were no citizen comments.

 

B.     2007-08 Bus Routes

 

Ms. Linda Beaudoin, Allenstown Bus Coordinator from Dail Transportation, presented 2007-08 Bus Routes and answered questions from the Board.

 

A motion to accept the 2007-08 Bus Routes as preseted by Ms. Beaudoin was made by Carl Schaefer, seconded by Karen LaPlume

C.     Credit Union Presentation

 

Ms. Polly Saltmarsh, from the New Hampshire Credit Union, presented the New Hampshire Credit Union curriculum on Financial Literacy for the Board and ARD staff. Curriculum and other information for ARD students and staff will be forwarded to Dr. Cox-Buteau and 8th grade staff.

 

D.  Swearing in of new Allenstown School Board Member

 

Mr. Dennis Fowler, Moderator, administered the oath of office to new Allenstown School   Board member, Stedman Holton. Board members welcomed him to the Board.

 

E.   Principals’ Reports

 

Ms. Kenny was excused from the meeting. Dr. Cox-Buteau  reviewed  portions of her written report for the Board.

 

A motion was made by Karen LaPlume, seconded by Louise L’Heureux to reduce the number of teachers in grade 6 from 3 to 2 for the 2007-08 school year.

4.   Old/Unfinished Business

 

A.    Staffing

 

A motion was made by Karen LaPlume, seconded by Carl Schaefer, to accept the resignation of Ms. Sandy Larochelle.

A motion was made by Louise L’Heureux, seconded by Karen LaPlume, to accept Mr. Warburton’s nomination of Ms. Hayley Quinones as the new Wellness teacher at ARD. Ms. Quinines will replace Ms. Lane-Theriault.

At 7:50, a motion was made by Sted Holton, seconded by Carl Schaefer under RSA 91-A:3IIc to enter into non-public session to discuss a personnel matter.

B.     5th Grade Transition at AES 2008-09 School Year

 

This is a continuing item for discussion. The Board asked for an update at its September 2007 meeting.

 

C.     NECAP Testing

 

Principals will update Board on the results of the Fall 2006 NECAP tests when received from the New Hampshire State Department of Education.

 

D.    2007-08 ‘Draft Goals’

 

The Board discussed the draft 2007-08 School Board Goals. It was decided to invite other Allenstown Boards for a short reception and tour of ARD at the beginning of the September meeting. Mr. Warburton will coordinate with Kelley Collins to send out a letter of invitation.

 

A motion was made by Karen LaPlume, seconded by Louise L’Heureux, to accept the 2007-08 Goals as amended.

5.   New Business

 

      A.  2006-07 Budget/Facilities Update

 

            The Board received an update from Dr. Cox-Buteau and Mr. Warburton on summer facilities work in both buildings. The board took a short tour of ARD.

 

      B.  Teacher Recognition

 

            At 8:30 P.M., a motion was made by Carl Schaefer, seconded by Louise L’Heureux, to enter into non-public session under RSA 91-A:3IIc to discuss a personnel matter.

      C.  New Truant Officers

 

            At the request of the Allenstown Police Chief Mulhulland, Jonathan Duchesne’s name should be removed as Allenstown truant Officer, and he recommends the appointment of Eric Cartier and Jason Howland as the new truant officers for Allenstown.

 

            A motion to remove the name of Jonathan Duchesne as Allenstown Truant Officer was made by Karen LaPlume, seconded by Sted Holton. 

 

            ALL IN FAVOR

                                                             THE MOTION CARRIED

 

A motion to appoint Eric Cartier and Jason Howland as new Allenstown Truant Officers was made by Carl Schaefer, seconded by Louise L’Heureux.

A.    Agenda Preparation

 

Next Allenstown Board meeting will be at ARD at 6 P.M. beginning in the ARD cafeteria with a short reception for All Boards in Allenstown.
