- The Bridges
Program
- SAU #53
Alternative Middle School
-
The SAU 53
Bridge Program students receive all of the needed requirements to be
successful in the years to come as defined by the New Hampshire State
Standards. This new
community provides a safe and secure environment for the students to
share, learn, and gain the social skills necessary for mainstream
success. Additionally, this
program meets the needs of those students who would benefit from a small
group setting with a lower student to teacher ratio than is available in
a regular classroom. The
program also features an experiential learning component to facilitate
great academic involvement for those students who have difficulty
initiating and maintaining appropriate connections with peers and staff.
Unlike the traditional
classroom, the Bridge Program allows time to process problems within the
group and to allow the students to become experts on their own needs,
skills, and build on their unique individual strengths.
Program staff will help the students learn to manage their own
behaviors. The behavior
management and intervention plan will teach the students effective and
constructive ways to deal with stressful and emotionally challenging
situations. This community
is designed specifically to build upon the opportunity for growth and to
maintain student dignity.
